Keith Roberts M.Sc FRICS C Eng MIStructE MCIOB FCIARB
Keith is a Chartered Engineer, Chartered Building Surveyor, Chartered Structural Engineer, Chartered Construction Manager and a Chartered Arbitrator. He is also an Accredited Adjudicator, an Accredited Mediator and a RICS Accredited Expert Witness.
Keith’s career is long and varied, with over 40 years PQE with multi-disciplinary consultants, contractors and developers in the design, construction and development of building and civil engineering projects. In addition, he spent 9 years at board level as a Projects Director and Managing Director of an £80m turnover national contractor.
Keith also established his own design and project management consultancy and contracting business. His contracting company was involved in civil engineering, ground works and paving contracting until, about 10 years ago, he reverted entirely to professional work where Keith’s experience lies in litigation, arbitration, adjudication, mediation and expert determination.
Keeth has undertaken expert assignments relating to wide-ranging defective construction work, floating floors, condensation, structural engineering (including subsidence, underpinning and multi-storey buildings), flooding, slate and tile roofing, single-ply membrane flat roof construction, wind damage to a 16-storey building, defective plumbing installations in a multi-storey building, surface water drainage, a malfunctioning package sewage treatment plant, clay brick and tile drying ovens, block paving, building surveys, replacement pvcu window installation and quantum.
Subject properties have varied from single dwellings to a £44 million mixed residential/commercial development and clients have ranged from private individuals to one of Europe’s largest construction groups and one of the world's largest process engineering and consultancy groups.
Keith has also acted as expert in several disputes relating to multiple public housing as well as private housing and multi-storey apartments and is familiar with NHBC and Zurich technical standards, having been a director of three NHBC registered companies.
Overall, Keith has had over 180 adjudicator, arbitrator, independent expert, expert witness and advisory expert appointments relating to building, civil engineering, structural engineering and
The RICS has nominated Keith as Adjudicator in over 60 disputes with sums at issue up to £860,000.
He has also acted as party representative in numerous adjudications including two with amounts in issue of £1.2 million and £2 million on a £25 million hotel and leisure development.
Subject matter has included building, civil and structural engineering, roofing, mechanical and electrical services, mechanical engineering works relating to quarrying plant, development consultancy and town and country planning.
Issues have included technical matters relating to building, civil engineering and structural engineering; defects, design, contractual duty of care, materials and workmanship, quantum, delays, damages, interpretation of contract provisions and contract law.
Keith has carried out adjudications under the JCT provisions, the Scheme, TeCSA Rules and bespoke adjudication agreements.
Finally, Keith has an Advanced Professional Award in Expert Witness Evidence and is also a member of the Society of Construction Law, The Adjudication Society and the Arbitration Club.
